Spar Celebrates Fair City’s 4000th Episode

Spar announced that it was delighted to celebrate Fair City’s 4000th episode this week. The series has been on the air since 1989 and continues to attract an average audience of 421,000 four times a week on RTÉ One.

Spar has featured in the soap opera since 2012, when a Spar store opened in its fictional location of Carrigstown. The product placement was the first of its kind in the Irish market.

Willie O’Byrne, Managing Director of BWG Foods, owners and operators of the Spar brand in Ireland, said, “Spar would like to congratulate the fantastic cast and crew of Fair City on the 4000th episode. This hugely popular soap is as relevant today as it was back in 1989. Spar is delighted to be an integral part of Carrigstown and it has been great to see so much drama take place in the Spar store over the past number of years.”

Speaking about the 4000th episode, Brigie DeCourcy, Executive Producer of Fair City said, “What an incredible achievement. 4000 episodes equates to 2,000 hours of drama and is testament to the cast, crew, writers, directors and storytellers, past and present, for creating so many remarkable and memorable moments over the 27 years. We’ve witnessed some fantastic storylines in Carrigstown since it took to the air waves in 1989 and believe me when I say there’s still plenty more to come.”

Also commenting on the landmark milestone, Jane Gogan, Head of Drama in RTÉ Television commented; “It’s a magnificent achievement to reach this milestone. Through an era of immense challenges and changes in RTÉ and broadcasting generally Fair City still stands as a formidable presence in RTÉ One’s schedule. The popularity of Fair City and the enjoyment viewers get from the series comes directly from the hard work and commitment of the many professionals involved in the making of the show.”
