Survey Reveals Irish Adults Struggle To Maintain Healthy Lifestyle

A survey which was carried out by Amárach Research on behalf of LloydsPharmacy queried 1,000 Irish adults about their attitudes and experience of diet, exercise and leading a healthy lifestyle.

According to the survey, less than one-in-five adults feel they eat a balanced diet and exercise enough. 58% of respondents say they struggle to follow a healthy diet and get regular exercise. Family emerged as the greatest support for adults trying to live a healthy lifestyle at 48%, followed by healthcare professionals at 27% and friends at 16%.

The survey findings were released today as LloydsPharmacy launched its ‘Health for Life’ initiative. In addition to blood pressure and cholesterol testing from instore pharmacists, LloydsPharmacy has also commenced the roll-out of Health and Wellness stores across its pharmacy network. These hubs will offer a range of products designed to help customers keep a healthy, balanced diet.

Goretti Brady, Managing Director of LloydsPharmacy said: “Obesity and unhealthy lifestyles is the leading issue facing our country. As WHO statistics indicate, Ireland is heading toward being one of the fattest nations in the world. We need solutions which allow people to easily incorporate healthy living into their daily lives such as providing housing within walking/cycling distance of their employment, facilitating employers to integrate exercise and healthy diet into their workplace.”
