60% Of Irish Cheddar Sold To UK As 'Nobody Else' Eats It, Exposed To Brexit Risk

Brexit poses a particular challenge to Ireland's Cheddar cheese makers who sell most of their cheese to the UK as 'nobody else' eats it, TDs have been told.

Ireland's Cheddar cheese manufactures are faced with challenges due to Brexit, as most of their cheese is exported to the UK, TDs have been told.

Aidan O'Driscoll, secretary general, Department Arigulture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that although the dairy sector is less exposed to the risk of Brexit, Cheddar still remains vunerable, according to Independent.ie

Reportedly, O'Driscoll also said this was due to the fact that 60% of Irish Cheddar exports currently go to the UK.

"Nobody else eats Cheddar. It can't be diverted off to France," O'Driscoll said.
