Keelings has launched a new berry pack to highlight its support for the Irish Cancer Society's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which takes place during October.
Keelings Dietician and Nutritionist, Aveen Bannon highlights the benefits of berries, “Berries are a great high fibre fruit which is low in calories but packed with vitamins and phytochemicals. Berries like raspberries are particularly high in a compound called ellagic acid which has strong antioxidant properties and has been shown to have some anti-tumur effects in both the laboratory and animal studies.
"According to UK Research ellagic acid may slow the growth of some tumors caused by certain carcinogens. This is promising and while more research needs to be done to see its effect in humans it would suggest that this antioxidant has the potential to be a powerful one”
