Mars To Remove All Artificial Colours From Its Food Products

Mars has announced that it will remove all artificial colours from its human food products to meet evolving consumer preferences.

The move will be implemented over five years and will affect the company’s chocolate, gum, confection, food and drink products.

Mars said in a statement that, although artificial colours pose no known risks to human health or safety, consumers are calling for the use of more natural ingredients in the manufacturing of food products.

As a result of this sentiment, the company has said it will seek out safe, high quality alternatives that maintain the vibrant colours that customers expect from its products.

However, the company noted that slightly different formulations and products may exist in different markets, depending on each region’s consumer preferences, ingredient availability and local regulations.

"We’re in the business of satisfying and delighting the people who love our products," said Grant F. Reid, President and CEO of Mars, Incorporated. "Eliminating all artificial colors from our human food portfolio is a massive undertaking, and one that will take time and hard work to accomplish."

He added, "Our consumers are the boss and we hear them. If it’s the right thing to do for them, it’s the right thing to do for Mars."
