ABDI Launches Camino-Inspired Míl Gin

Alltech Beverage Division Ireland (ABDI) has launched its new Irish pot still gin Míl Gin, distilled with Mediterranean botanicals.

Míl Gin is full-flavoured small-batch gin, distilled with almond, basil, bergamot orange, gooseberry, juniper, olives, orris, rosemary and thyme.

It has an ABV of 42% and has citrus and subtle herb notes of basil, thyme, rosemary and piney juniper. The taste is fresh bittersweet with a clean citrus finish. The signature serve is a wedge of grapefruit and a basil leaf.

Iberian Inspiration

The idea for the gin came about through a team of ‘ginthusiasts’ at the newly opened Pearse Lyons Distillery, based in the refurbished St. James Church in Dublin’s Liberties.

They made the connection between this site and the Camino de Santiago in North-West Spain, where tradition has it St. James is buried. The team began exploring recipes for an Iberian-Irish fusion gin.

This voyage of discovery led them to Míl, the mythical Spanish warrior whose descendants are said to have populated Ireland, bringing with them the warm flavours of the sun.

Míl Gin captures the essence of this expedition, suffusing pure Irish gin with the taste of the sunny Iberian peninsula - land of almonds, basil, bergamot orange, gooseberry, juniper, olive, orris, rosemary and thyme.

Full Flavour

“There is literally nothing on the Irish market like Míl which makes us really excited,” said Conor Ryan, global spirits ambassador for ABDI, speaking at the launch. “It is quite simply a full-flavoured Mediterranean gin which does not try to be anything different.”

“The base is a pure Irish grain spirit which is then distilled with a range of wonderfully fragrant Mediterranean botanicals,” he continued.

“Míl has already been received with great interest on the international market. It offers a distinct herbiness which makes it stand out among the other premium gin products on the market.”

Míl Gin will be available in to purchase in all good spirits retailers, bars and restaurants nationwide, according to ABDI.
