Aldi Announces Two-Year Deal With Carlow-Based Mushroom Growers

Aldi Ireland today announced it has agreed to a new two-year deal with Carlow-based Codd Mushrooms that will see the business provide €9m worth of mushrooms to Aldi stores.

Under the new contract, Codd Mushrooms will supply Aldi’s 133 Irish stores with 13.3m packs of mushrooms, representing a volume growth of 600% between Aldi and the family-run business who first began supplying Aldi in 2007.

Uncertain Times

“The certainty provided by our partnership with Aldi has helped us in not only growing our business, but in developing a world-class production facility here in Tullow,” Leslie Codd, Managing Director of Codd Mushrooms, said.

“This year alone we have been able to employ an additional ten new full-time members of staff, bringing the number on our team to 250. We now plan to continue our growth into 2020 – secure in the knowledge that we have Aldi’s support.

“The new deal with Aldi strengthens our position in the Irish market at a time when the mushroom industry is dealing with uncertainty and challenges in the face of Brexit.”

“Aldi is proud to have worked with Codd Mushrooms since 2007, and we hope that this new contract will further cement our already excellent working relationship,” Aldi’s Group Buying Director, John Curtin said.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Codd Mushrooms to ensure that Aldi customers can enjoy the very best Irish mushrooms in our stores at unbeatable prices year-round.”
