Aldi Ireland Delivers Record Christmas Sales Growth of 10%

Aldi Ireland has recorded its 'best-ever' Christmas trading period, generating record sales growth of 10% on the previous year.

In a statement the German retail said that the week commencing 17 December was Aldi’s busiest-ever in Ireland, as they welcomed over 350,000 more shoppers through their doors in the run up to Christmas.

“Our Christmas range was the largest and most innovative yet and caught the imagination of Irish shoppers, who shunned more expensive food retailers and visited our stores in record numbers,” said Giles Hurley, CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland.

Trading Up

Aldi’s attributed its strong sales performance to a 'surge in demand' for its premium Specially Selected range.

Hurley noted that Irish shoppers chose to trade up for Christmas, treating themselves to premium products.

During December customers purchased over 150,000 bottles of prosecco at Aldi, in addition to 500,000 mince pies, nine million Irish brussel sprouts and over 170 tonnes of Irish carrots, the discount retailer said.
