Aldi Projects Strawberry Sales To Reach 800 Tonnes This Year

Aldi today has projected that it will sell 800 tonnes of Irish grown strawberries this year.

In a statement the retailer said that it will continue to source Irish strawberries from the McGuinness Brothers, of North County Dublin, who have been growing the berries for many years.

The fruit growers have reportedly erected new glasshouses to supply Aldi with early seasonal produce.

“We know that for our customers, Irish produce is always their first choice. We are delighted to be able to offer our customers early season Irish strawberries for spring,” Finbar McCarthy, group buying director, Aldi.

“We look forward to working closely with the McGuinness Brothers this year, and are proud to offer their high quality Irish strawberries at the best price possible.”

Over '50% of Aldi’s sales' come from products sourced from Irish based suppliers, the German discounter said. .
