Bulmers Owner C&C Credits World Cup And Sunshine For Sales Spike

C&C has said that the good weather and the ongoing World Cup tournament has been positive for the group's trading, reports Independent.ie

A trading update from the start of March to date has shown growth across all the company's key markets and the heatwave in Ireland helped Bulmers to return to return to moderate volume growth in the year year-to-year the cider maker said.

Meanwhile, C&C said the consumer reaction to the introduction of minimum unit pricing in Scotland "has been broadly in line with our expectations".

C&C invested heavily in its Bulmers brand in Ireland during the year. The group launched a new cider, Outcider by Bulmers, and introduced a new marketing campaign for Bulmers Original cider under the tag-line “100% Irish”.

The trading update also noted that progress is being made in improving service levels and operational performance at Matthew Clark Bibendum, which it purchased in April.

C&C bought the wholesale arm of troubled British drinks firm Conviviality for a nominal fee earlier this year, safeguarding most of the jobs threatened by the parent company's expected collapse.
