C&C In Bid To Buy UK Drinks Group Conviviality

Cider maker C&C is reportedly in the running to buy the wholesale division Matthew Clark of Conviviality.

Trading in the 'troubled' UK drinks group was suspespended on the London stock market last month after the company discovered an unpaid tax bill of £30 million (€34 million) which was to be paid by 29 March, reports the Sunday Times.

It was reported that last week Conviviality announced plans to call in administrators and is seeking buyers for all parts of the business.

A number of retailers and convenience stores have reportedly expresssed an interest in the companys other two business units Bargin Booze and Wine Rack.

Franchise Chains

Conviviality Retail is the UK’s largest franchised off-licence and convenience chain.

It's 370 Franchisees operate more than 700 stores.

Established in 1810 Matthew Clark's range includes over 1,300 wines which 'have been selected purely with the On-Trade in mind' as well as a selection of spirits, beers ales, ciders and soft drinks.
