Cork Based Fresh Fish Deli Announces €500,000 Deal With SuperValu

The Fresh Fish Deli has secured a €500,000 deal with SuperValu which will extend the producers rage of goods to now include fishcakes, which will be stocked nationwide, according to the Sunday Business Post.

The West Cork-based supplier already supplies 40 SuperValu stores in Munster as part of the Food Academy programme run by the Irish retailer with the support of Bord Bia and the Local Enterprise Offices.

A Platform To Succeed

The fresh fish Deli was established by Monica Buckley four years ago and uses fish supplied by local firms to produce a range of fishcakes. The business has also moved to a 6,000 square foot production facility in Skibbereen to increase production. Buckley employs 20 people at present, but hopes to add more in the months ahead.

“We were fortunate to be able to scale up our business in a sustainable fashion thanks to the SuperValu stores being independently-owned,” Buckley told the Sunday Business Post.

“We were able to grow sales before making a large capital investment to expand our facilities.”

Martin Kelleher, SuperValu’s managing director, said that it is a “massive unique selling point” that SuperValu stocks products like FreshFish Deli’s fishcakes, which customers won’t be able to get anywhere else. Kelleher said that it drives shopper loyalty.
