Diageo Announces New Leadership Roles In Sustainability

In order to demonstrate its commitment to the environment, drinks giant Diageo has created two new roles; Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) and Director of Diageo in Society.

Entering these new roles are David Cutter, as CSO, and Kate Gibson, as Director of Diageo in Society.

Cutter currently sits on Diageo’s Executive Committee, and will take up his new position while continuing his current role as the president of global supply and procurement. He has worked with the company for over 15 years.

Gibson will be joining Diageo in March 2019 from InterContinental Hotels Group where she is currently vice president, global corporate citizenship.

Environmental Impacts

“Across our diverse supply chain I see first-hand the positive impact our operations can have on the communities around them,” Cutter said, commenting on his new role.

“Whether it is ensuring our sites have leading energy efficient technology, reducing fuel and water consumption or supporting our vast global family of farmers providing grains to our breweries and distilleries, this is a huge and significant role. I fervently believe in the significant contribution we can make and our commitment to do so.”

The move comes as Diageo aims to minimise its operational impact on the environment, with a focus on water stewardship and replenishment in water-stressed areas, and sourcing local raw materials.

In addition to this, it will also incorporate its promotion of the responsible consumption of alcohol and reducing alcohol-related harm.
