Diageo Ireland has said that it contributed more than €1 million to charities and community groups over the course of last year, including charitable donations, bursaries, Arthur Guinness Fund payments and Arthur Guinness Projects payments.

Among the contributions made by the drinks giant were an award of €250,000 to winners of the Arthur Guinness Projects, as well as €350,000 donated by the Arthur Guinness Fund to social entrepreneurs.

Another programme, Gifted, is an annual grant scheme that sees a fund of €50,000 being awarded to 18 organisations or community groups where Diageo employees are actively involved.

Commenting, David Smith, country director at Diageo Ireland, thanked the "Diageo employees who devoted so much energy to philanthropic efforts in 2013. This is a huge personal commitment on the part of these employees and we are proud of the impact that they make with community groups and charities in all parts of Ireland.”
