Villa Maria Launches Low-Alcohol Wine
The most-awarded winery in New Zealand, Villa Maria, has introduced a reduced-ABV line.
The range, comprised of a Sauvignon Blanc, a Pinot Grigio and a rosé, is 25 per cent lighter on alcohol than 'standard' wines.
The company achieved the feat using the 'natural' method – picking grapes earlier in the year so sugar levels are lower, as opposed to the post-vinification mode of practice, which involves more technology.
A spokesperson for the company said “An increasing number of consumers are looking for drink options to suit their healthier lifestyles.
This range offers these lifestyle conscious consumers exactly that – a lighter alternative in terms of alcohol and calories but made without compromising on taste.” McWilliams, Arniston Bay and Blossom Hill
Wine with reduced alcohol is continuning to grow as a category, with Gallo, McWilliams, Arniston Bay and Blossom Hill among the firms competing in the category.
