The First 25 Tonne Container Of Irish Beef Lands In China

Bord Bia has confirmed that the first 25 tonne container of Irish beef has reached China.

Chinese import company Beijing Hopewise, which specialises in online and foodservice sales and supplies JD.com, China’s largest online selling platform, purchased the products from ABP.

Bord Bia and ABP China hosted a reception in Shanghai Port to commemorate the arrival of the first container. Ireland’s Ambassador to China, Eoin O’Leary, was in attendance.

Meat China's E-Commerce

Meat sales on e-commerce platforms in China were worth approximately €3.75 billion last year. Over 75% of these sales are beef, the majority of which is imported.

Bord Bia’s Shanghai office is actively working on marketing and promotional campaigns to support and promote Irish beef being sold online, and it wants to introduce the products to wholesalers, chefs and foodservice customers.

Bord Bia will also run a series of regional seminars and participate in two major food trade fairs in China in the comings weeks.

On the other side of the water, 12 Chinese officials are expected to arrive in Ireland this weekend for a trade and knowledge transfer visit.

The visit is being run and hosted by Bord Bia, and it will last for two weeks. It will focus on beef, pork, lamb and dairy ingredients.

Their programme includes high-level meetings with the Department of Agriculture, Teagasc, EU Commission, and a visit to the National Ploughing Championships.
