ICMSA Calls On Dairy Processors To Hold Prices For First Quarter

Dairy chairman of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers’ Association (ICMSA), Gerald Quain, has called on processors to hold dairy prices for the first quarter of the year.

As reported by Agriland, Quain wants momentum from December to carry on to the new year, and said there would be no justification not to hold prices.

He, however, said that a price rise is what should happen.

He advised processors to review the market situation at the end of the first quarter and then take the appropriate action.

“We’d be confident that by then it will be obvious that a price rise is justified but, in the meantime, we cannot see why a processor would even consider not holding price and we’d be extremely angry if they weren’t willing to wait the few weeks till the market data confirms absolutely what’s already obvious – markets are moving upwards and prices will follow.”

He added that processors should be more anxious to secure supply as EU milk production slows down and fodder supply issues persist in many countries.
