Ireland Most Expensive Country In EU For Tobacco And Alcohol

Research shows that Ireland is the most expensive country in the EU for alcoholic beverages and tobacco in 2016, according to consumer price level data from Eurostat.

The report showed that alcohol and tobacco prices in Ireland is roughly 75% higher than the average price in the EU, reported Independent.ie

The UK and Finland reportedly completed the top three most expensive countries in the EU for alcohol and tobacco.

The highest price dispersion across the various sections can be found for alcoholic beverages, which is mainly due to due to large differences in taxation on these products across the 28 Member States, according to the Eurostat report.

It also indicated that Ireland was the sixth most expensive place for food prices, with groceries here costing '20% more than the EU average'.
