Irish Editor-In-Chief Of ‘Glamour’ Shelves Print Edition Of Magazine

Samantha Barry, the Irish editor-in-chief of Glamour magazine has reportedly announced her plans to cease publication of the print edition of the magazine.

Condé Nast, the publisher of glossy magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, announced on Tuesday that it was ending regular print publication of Glamour, reports the New York Times.

The magazine which launched in 1939 as Glamour of Hollywood last regularly published print edition, the January 2019 issue, is reportedly scheduled to hit newsstands in the US next week.

“This is my plan, because it makes sense,” Barry, a former executive producer for social and emerging media at CNN Worldwide and a Newstalk journalist said in an interview.

“It’s where the audiences are, and it’s where our growth is. That monthly schedule, for a Glamour audience, doesn’t make sense anymore.”

'Doubling Down on Digital'

"We're doubling down on digital — investing in the storytelling, service, and fantastic photo shoots we’ve always been known for, bringing it to the platforms our readers frequent most,” Barry who hails from Ballincollig in Cork, wrote in a memo to the magazine’s staff.

“We’ll be expanding video and social storytelling, with new and ambitious series and projects.”
