Irish Organisations Have One Year To Comply With Data Protection Regulations

Any organisation that keeps personal data, including lists of customers, contacts or suppliers, has a little over a year to get itself in order so as to comply with the EU’s new General Data Protection Regulations (the GDPR) or will face fines, according to a statement issued today (19 April) by Frontier Privacy.

Founded by lawyers Kate Colleary and Aoife Sexton, the new Irish firm provides services 'to guide organisations through the new legislation and to help them put the systems and processes in place to better manage data'.

The GDPR comes into effect on 25 May, 2018.

“Whether you are a private company, a public sector agency, a local authority, a charity, or a technology start-up, managing privacy and information proactively is essential to your organisation. However, it isn’t as daunting a task as it might seem. Instead of relying on an ad hoc approach, Frontier Privacy will help you to implement clear systems and protocols, train and empower staff to be better aware of risks, assign the right people to the task of overseeing your compliance, and better control how third parties use the data you allow them access to.

"Privacy regulation is a fast-changing landscape, and Frontier Privacy can help you to navigate its complexities. We offer clear, workable solutions to help you achieve compliance and de-risk your processes”, explains Colleary.

Reportedly, Indications from Europe and the Data Protection Commissioner’s Office show that there will be 'no leeway in terms of implementation'.

It also outlined that companies will be expected to have adopted the appropriate measures at before next years deadline.
