Did you know?... Retail symbol XL is wasting no time in embracing the festive season this year. From Saturday, 1 December, Ireland’s fastest growing retail symbol brand will be running a 12 days of Elf consumer campaign that aims to encourage footfall into stores and provides retailers with fun and unique content for store social media pages. The campaign will be supported with content on the national XL Facebook page, with teasers posted all this coming week in the lead up to the campaign starting on December 1st. The teasers will include a national competition based around looking for a name for Elf’s friend. The Elf will be getting up to mischief throughout the store, as well as highlighting special offers. The Elf will also be featuring in the XL colouring competition that is currently running in participating stores until 10th December.

Did you know?... Following last week's news that Wetherspoon intends to accelerate the expansion of its operations in Ireland with the opening of pubs in Carlow and on Camden Street in Dublin next year, the pub group has now announced that it is looking for additional sites in the country as a result of the "great success" it is experiencing with the five venues it currently operates in the Republic.

Did you know?... Chicken prices are set to rise by 17% in supermarkets after the recent summer drought created a worldwide shortage of feed. As a result, chicken prices are higher than at any point in the last decade, according to Newstalk Breakfast which aired on Friday, 23 November. The price increase reflects a global shortage of feed on the back of the unusually hot weather this summer.

Did you know?... Nestlé has introduced two exciting limited editions to the nation’s shops this winter. Nescafé Gold Gingerbread Latte and Gingerbread Matchmakers by Quality Street will be introduced as a limited edition offer to its UK customers. Quality Street Gingerbread Matchmakers are available exclusively at Tesco and Nescafé Gold Gingerbread Latte is available in the coffee aisle in shops across the UK.

Did you know?... The ads watchdog has performed a U-turn on a decision from earlier this year that Kellogg’s breached strict rules on targeting high fat, salt, and sugar products at children. In August, the Advertising Standards Authority banned a TV commercial for the cereal giant’s Coco Pops Granola – upholding a complaint from the Obesity Health Alliance.

Did you know?... Kingfisher, the owner of DIY chain B&Q, has reported a 1.3pc decline in like-for-like sales to €3.4 billion in the three months to 31 October. In Ireland and the UK, like-for-like sales at B&Q were down 2.9% year-on-year to €955 million, while its Screwfix chain reported a 4.1% rise in sales to €497 million.

Did you know?... UK-based Thatchers Cider is expanding its cider portfolio by introducing a new Rosé cider for the UK market. Thatchers Rosé Cider is a 4% ABV sparkling Somerset cider made from a blend of naturally sweet dessert apples such as Pink Lady, Fuji, and Gala. 440ml cans of the new cider are now available nationwide from Sainsbury’s stores in the UK, and a 500ml flint bottle will also be introduced in December.
