Lidl Ireland And Northern Ireland Wins SEAI Sustainable Energy Award

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has announced the winners of its Sustainable Energy Awards at a gala event, which saw Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland GmbH take away the Large Business Energy Project Award.

The company’s sustainable energy programme is a multifaceted approach in which every step of the energy life cycle is challenged to identify improvements, from end users in stores, all the way upstream to the source of energy supply.

“The innovative approaches taken by the finalists, demonstrate the expertise Ireland has in this area and will inspire others to follow suit,” said , Richard Bruton T.D., Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment.

The Awards And Winners

The Awards reward excellence in energy management in businesses, communities and public sector organisations.

Sponsored by Enprova, the Large Business Energy Project Award honours large businesses which have gone beyond best practice in new or upgrade technology solutions.

“The SEAI Energy Awards celebrate the absolute best of Ireland’s sustainable energy achievements. They are a vivid demonstration of how Irish business, communities and public organisations are pushing the boundaries in energy efficiency and the switch to clean energy,” said Jim Gannon, chief executive of SEAI.

“As the realities of climate change becoming clearer to us all, it is particularly important to highlight what work is being done by energy leaders across the country.”

The result has been striking with a reduction in carbon intensity of over 50% versus 2016 levels and cost savings of €600,000.

Other winners of the Awards included: Gurteen College, Tipperary; EirGrid; Rediscovery Centre, Ballymun; The Aut Even Hospital, Kilkenny; Sligo University Hospital; Aran Islands Community Energy Cooperative, Galway; MPOWER, Dublin; and Wyeth Nutrition, Limerick.
