Lions Club And FoodCloud Link With Tesco Ireland For Christmas Food Appeal

Lions Club, FoodCloud and Tesco Ireland are joining forces and asking shoppers to support families in need by donating a food item during a two-day Christmas Food Appeal. The appeal will take place on Friday and Saturday, November 25 and 26, between 11am and 7.30pm in Tesco stores nationwide.

In the last three years the Christmas Food Appeal has collected over €500,000 worth of food for families. During the two day appeal, a ‘shopping list’ with suggested non-perishable food items will be available to all customers as they enter their local Tesco store. Shoppers areurged to add an item from the list to their shopping basket and place it in the Food Appeal trolley on their way out.

Joe Smith, Lions Club Food Appeal Coordinator commented, “We have been running a national Food Appeal since the 1980s and are incredibly proud of the difference that the Tesco Food Appeal makes to families across Ireland. It is fantastic that in the last three years alone we have collected food worth over €500,000. We are determined to make this year’s food appeal the most successful yet.”

Iseult Ward, Co-Founder & CEO of FoodCloud added: “We are delighted to join with Tesco and the Lions Club in the annual Food Appeal which will further strengthen our reach in local communities this festive season. We are aware that Christmas can be a challenging time for many families and it’s great that we can provide additional donations of long-lasting food through the food appeal that support the fresh surplus food donations our partner charities are already receiving from stores.”

Christine Heffernan, Corporate Affairs Director Tesco Ireland, “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our customers over the last few years. We are proud to have FoodCloud on board this year which will help increase the number of local organisations that we can support.“

All food collected during the appeal in Tesco stores will be sorted by volunteers from FoodCloud’s partner charities and the 115 Lions Clubs spread throughout the country, who will redistribute food parcels to those who need them most. A number of charitable organisations will benefit from this year’s food appeal, including St. Vincent de Paul and Friends of the Elderly.
