The theme of the Checkout Conference 2018, in association with dunnhumby, is 2020 and Beyond, Strategic Planning For The Next Decade.  The year 2020 is set to be a huge milestone for the Irish FMCG industry, with many companies currently working closely to meet key goals in issues like sustainability and growth by this year.

Colette Fitzpatrick will be returning as MC of the Checkout Conference for 2018. The TV3 news anchor will guide attendees through the exciting presentations from Irish and international retail experts.

Food and retail expert, Joanne Denney-Finch OBE is chief executive of the IGD. She will offer delegates key insights on the big trends affecting grocery retail and what they mean for the Irish market. Joanne will also provide some examples of global innovations that can be applied to the Irish retail market and will examine the growing popularity of ‘food to go’ as an interesting part of the grocery landscape in Ireland.

Based on his company’s detailed market research, he will also give delegates an insight into the big global trends that are likely to take off in Ireland.

Global online guru, Patrick Munden is global head of retail and marketing with Salmon, who help retailers harness the power of digital technology. Leading Irish retailer and pioneer of in-store sales and marketing innovations, Kevin McCarthy is managing director of the Garvey Group. His presentation will focus on how to build a successful strategy for an independent retail business, showing how Garvey’s has strategically planned, changed and innovated over the past five years - and how they are preparing for the customer of the future.

Creator of the first supermarket loyalty card and one of the top 50 marketers in America, David Ciancio is senior customer strategist with dunnhumby. His thought-provoking talk will look at how big data is giving consumers a voice and what they are saying, and how retailers can stay fit for the future by understanding the new consumer mindset.

E-commerce expert Wijnand Jongen is a world-renowned author and futurist on retail and e-commerce. His presentation will ask ‘is it the end of online shopping?’ and look at the future of food retail in a world that is always connected.

Europe’s number one retail and food analyst, as voted by the Thomson Reuters Analyst Awards, Clive Black, head of research at Shore Capital, will give delegates his perspective on the Irish grocery market from the other side of the Irish sea, including his assessment of the performance of the various chains operating in the Irish convenience space.

From Madrid to Moscow, Stephen Wynne-Jones, editor of ESM: European Supermarket Magazine, explores some of the latest trends and innovations in the European retail sector, and looks at what Irish grocers could learn from their continental neighbours.
