Smurfit Kappa’s Polish operation has won two prizes at this year’s Art of Packaging Awards for its Ice Box design for fruit juice.
The design won in the Packaging Concept Category, as well as taking third place in the Overall Award.
The Ice Box 5L Bag-in-Box pack was designed to fit perfectly onto most fridge shelves, and has a tap located so that juice can be poured directly from the fridge.
The packaging was also designed to add paper cups as an accessory, making it ideal for on-the-go consumption.
The colourful cups that can be added are the only strong colour on the packaging, and can be used to visually communicate the flavour of the juice to consumers,
The Ice-Box’s outer pack is made of corrugated board, a recyclable and renewable resource, and features minimalistic print, and when two of the packages are put next to each other, the graphic elements depicting apples form a larger graphic.
Another feature is a three-dimensional cut-out of the word ‘PURE’, used to demonstrate the ecological purity of the packaging and of the juice inside.
"This product was developed in close cooperation with our client – we wanted to find the optimal solution in terms of economy and ergonomics," explained Bogdan Orzechowski, General Manager of Smurfit Kappa Poland’s Konin and Drezdenko branches.
