SuperValu has launched new recyclable packaging on its ready meals will result in 35 tonnes of black plastic being removed from circulation each year.
SuperValu Superquinn sausages, will also benefit from new recyclable packaging this month as black plastic is replaced with recyclable green trays, removing 16 tonnes of black plastic trays from circulation this year.

100% Compostable Bag
This announcement follows the introduction of Irelands first 100% compostable shopping bag earlier this year, which the group forecasted will result in 2.5 million plastic bags being removed from circulation over the course of a year.
The retailer explained in a statement that the bag is made with a blend of renewable raw materials.
When a shopper has used it as many times as possible, it can be disposed of in the brown bin that is found in most homes and many businesses and is then fully broken down once taken to industrial composting sites, turning into water and CO2 within 90 days.
