North-East Ireland Locals Win Spot at Ireland's Best Young Entrepreneur Competition

A gelato store and a plant-based supplement were recent standouts at a regional final of Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur competition.

20-year-old Orla Stafford, from Drogheda, and 31-year-old Conor Kerley, from Dundalk, will both compete at the National Finals of Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur competition at the Google HQ on 15 September, according to the Drogheda Independent.

Orla Stafford

Stafford’s gelato shop will compete in the Best Start-Up Business category.

She currently studies e-commerce and retailing at TU Dublin, but she learned how to make gelato in Italy

She uses local ingredients, such as Stameen apples, to create her gelato and currently has one gelato store in Drogheda and a second store in Rosslare. Her store in Drogheda, Izmoo gelateria, is expanding to cater for events.

Conor Kerley

Kerley created a food supplement that lowers blood sugar, inflammation and fats like cholesterol. His idea, called Setanta Nutrition Science, will compete in the Best Idea Category.

Kerley, a doctor of human nutrition and dietetics, already developed a prototype for the product and will start clinical trials this month. He’s also in the process of attaining a patent for Setanta Nutrition Science.
