Did you know… Moy Park has been announced as the sponsor of ‘Paul and Nick’s Big American Food Trip’, a travel food programme launching on UTV Ireland this Friday? The program features well known chefs Paul Rankin and Nick Nairn. Commenting, Briege Finnegan, Brand Marketing Manager for Moy Park said, “Paul and Nick share this ethos for good food and are real champions of local produce, which made sponsorship of the latest series a perfect fit.”

Did you know… Dunnes Stores has become the second supermarket to announce it will close its supermarket at the Connswater Shopping Centre in East Belfast? Just a few weeks ago it was announced that fellow grocery chain Tesco was to close its outlet in the centre as part of its restructuring process. In an interview with The Belfast Telegraph, East Belfast Alliance MP Naomi Long said she is seeking an urgent meeting with Dunnes management, and that news of the closure was yet another setback for the centre. Long said, "The primary concern in this process must be the welfare of Dunnes employees - who may lose their jobs if they are not redeployed to other stores.”

Did you know… Alan Reilly, the outgoing head of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland has said that the sale of non-Irish pork products that are labelled as Irish is "deception, but is not breaking the law"? In an interview with George Hook on Newstalk, Reilly said that the practice did not pose any threat to Ireland’s food safety standards and had full confidence in the safety of food on Irish shelves as they would be subject to the same EU standards elsewhere.

Did you know… Lidl has unveiled its latest budget clothing line in Irish stores, ahead of the coming Spring, featuring beachwear items, sunglasses, swimsuits and beachwear? The clothing collection, which will include men's, women's and children's items, will go on sale from 26 February.

Did you know… A study by the University of Texas has found that women are more likely to make purchases when they are at their most fertile? The study, of 500 female consumers, found that in a group of female consumers aged 18 to 40, consumers sought a wider variety of items when shopping while they are ovulating. Professor Kristina Durante, of Texas University commented “For about a week every month normally cycling women - constituting more than a billion customers - may be especially likely to respond to appeals by competing brands to switch.”

Did you know… BIM held a Fish Handling and Filleting Workshop at its Seafood Development Centre in Clonakilty, Cork last week? Experienced trainer and filleting expert, Hal Dawson led the workshop which covered a range of topics including Species Identification, Hygiene and Safety and Safe Knife preparation, as well as various filleting techniques. BIM will host a range of workshops in the coming months aimed at seafood retailers, on topics including Seafood Cookery, HACCP and Advanced Fish Quality.

Did you know… Findlater Wine and Spirit Group has announced it is to be the exclusive distributor of the Coravin Wine Access System in Ireland? Coravin is a device that allows users to pour and enjoy wine from their favorite bottles without pulling the cork. Coravin’s wine access technology leaves the cork in place, safeguarding the wine from oxidation or getting ‘corked’. Wine expert Robert Parker has called Coravin “the most transformational and exciting new product for wine lovers that has been developed or invented in the last 30 plus years.”

Did you know… Heinz teamed up with media agency Kinetic last week to launch an Out Of Home (OOH) advertising campaign for its Amoy brand, to coincide with the celebration of the Chinese New Year? To celebrate the Chinese theme, Kinetic placed 3D dragons to sit on top of five bus shelters across key Dublin sites, including Baggot Street and Collins Avenue. Emily O’Kane, Marketing Manager with Heinz said, “We are delighted to have created such an innovative OOH campaign with Kinetic.”
