Easter Egg Sales See Increase On 2014

Sales of Easter Eggs in Ireland totalled approximately €35 million in the run up to Easter this year, according to data from Nielsen.

Generally, sales of Easter Eggs begin to lift around six or seven weeks before Easter Sunday with 2015 seeing more concentrated sales in the final two weeks than in the same time period in 2014.

Sales of Easter Eggs for the last two weeks of the season were up 11% in Mulitples and 17% in Symbol Groups & Forecourts in comparison to last year. (Nielsen Scantrack, 2 WE Sales ending April 5th 2015 Vs April 20th 2014.)

Elsewhere, in the off trade sector, wine sales for Easter 2015 Vs Easter 2014 were down 1%. Beer was down 4%, however, sales of spirits were up 8% on last year.

Home baking sales were up 3% whilst sales of packaged cakes were down 2%. Meanwhile, in the Meat & Poultry sector, beef sales experienced the most incremental sales in the Multiples.
