One In Five Buy Gluten-Free Products Regardless Of Dietary Requirements

More than one in five Irish consumers buy gluten-free products regardless of whether they are coeliac or not, according to the latest Consumer Insights study from Empathy Research.

Marginally more females were of this opinion compared to males (23% v 18%), while under 35s are the more likely age category to consider buying gluten-free products without having a dietary requirement.

According to the survey, more than one in ten Irish people have someone in their household who has a gluten-free diet, indicating the increasing importance of the availability of gluten-free products in the Irish grocery market.

On the back of this, four fifths (83%) of Irish adults have noticed an increase in the number of gluten-free products available in-store. This is significantly higher among females (87%) than males (78%).

Two thirds (66%) of Irish adults say there should be more information made available about gluten-free products. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the majority (82%) of those with someone in their household who has a gluten-free diet think more information about gluten-free products should be made available, while almost two-thirds (64%) of those with no gluten-free diets in the household were also of this opinion.
