Sixteen Enforcement Orders Served On Food Businesses In October

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) served fifteen Closure Orders and one Prohibition Order on food businesses during October, for breaches of food safety legislation pursuant to the FSAI Act, 1998 and the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010.

Eight Closure Orders were served under the FSAI Act, 1998 on The Dark Horse Inn, Georges Quay, Dublin 2; Orchid Palace, Kanturk, Cork; Thaicoon Thai & Asian Cuisine, Dublin 9; Star Kebab & Pizza House, Tramore, Waterford; Pagar Gardens, Clonmel, Tipperary; Farmpak New Ross, Wexford; Roma Grill, Boyle, Roscommon and New Sweet N Spice, 64 Dorset Street Upper, Dublin 1.

Meanwhile, seven Closure Orders were served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 on Stela Food Stores, Mulhuddart, Dublin 15; The Smoke House, Killarney, Kerry; Lasani, 58-66 Parnell Street, Dublin 1; Spicy Bite, 58-66 Parnell Street, Dublin 1; Netedo’s, 58-66 Parnell Street, Dublin 1; Oriental Pantry Food Express, 58-66 Parnell Street, Dublin 1 and Bimdoc Cash & Carry, Finglas, Dublin 11.

Prof. Alan Reilly, Chief Executive, FSAI, said that consumers have a right to feel confident in the safety of the food they eat, and that every Closure Order undermines that confidence, with negative implications not only for the premises involved, but for the wider industry.

One Prohibition Order was also served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 on Bimdoc Cash & Carry, Finglas, Dublin 11. The Orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive. Prof. Reilly said, “While most food businesses follow high standards and are compliant with food safety legislation, we continue to encounter cases where consumers’ health is jeopardised through a failure to comply with food safety and hygiene requirements. These breaches are completely avoidable when food businesses have proper food safety management systems in place.”
