43% Of Irish Consumers ‘Would Like To See More In-Store Counters’

More than two fifths (43%) of consumers would like to see more butcher/seafood counters in-store, according to the latest Consumer Insights report from Empathy Research.

The survey of 996 consumers found that a fifth of Irish consumers (20%) say they are regular users of in-store butcher counters, while a further 43% of Irish consumers are occasional users. 1 in 5 Irish consumers say they ‘always’ or ‘often’ use in-store butcher counters when buying meat and/or poultry.

However, compared to in-store butcher counters, significantly less Irish consumers are regular users of in-store seafood counters, with only 12% citing they ‘always’ or ‘often’ use in-store seafood counters.

Looking at this by gender, females (13%) appear slightly more likely to be regular users of in-store seafood counters, compared to males (11%).

When it comes to quality, however, significantly more Irish consumers think in-store butchers/seafood counters offer better quality than pre-packed products. Almost half of Irish adults (47%) ‘agree’ or ‘strongly agree’ that in-store butchers/seafood counters offer better quality than pre-packed products.

Looking at this by region, over half of Dubliners (54%) think in-store butchers/seafood counters offer better quality than pre-packed products. This is higher than all the other regions; Rest of Leinster (44%), Munster (46%) and Connacht/Ulster (45%).
