Seasonal Retail Job Prospects Show 32% Increase YOY

Retail job opportunities has shown a 32% year-on-year increase in seasonal Christmas roles this year, an 8% increase on the same period five years ago, according to Jobs.ie.

Central Statistic Office (CSO) August 2018 figures recorded a 4% increase in annual retail sales (excluding the motor industry) and a 3.2% increase in retail sales for the month of August.

These stats suggest the economy is in buoyant mood and this is mirrored in the growth in seasonal job vacancies across key sectors such as retail and hospitality, the Irish recruitment website said in a statement.

Seasonal Roles Increase

“Seasonal Christmas roles are up significantly on this time last year. This suggests that retailers and the hospitality sector expect a bumper ten weeks between now and the Christmas holidays,” said Christopher Paye, general manager at Jobs.ie.

The increasing demand for seasonal workers brings plenty of opportunities for temporary and new part-time work, particularly in the retail and hospitality industries.

“Shop assistants, visual merchandisers, stockists, make-up artists, face painters and Santa’s elves are amongst the long list of positions on offer in the retail sector this year, ensuring that there is something out there to suit everybody this Christmas period," explained Paye.

“Finally, we would advise people interested in picking up seasonal work this Christmas to begin their search now. While Christmas may seem far away for most people, employers are eager to have their seasonal positions filled ahead of time and are already starting to recruit.”
