Aldi Ireland has officially opened its new Tullamore, Co. Offaly, store, creating 30 new permanent jobs in the local community.
The new store represents an investment of over €9.8 million in the area, bringing the total investment by Aldi in Offaly to €18.8 million since opening its first store in the county in 2000.
Green Party Senator and Minister for State at the Department of Agriculture Pippa Hackett officially opened the store today with the Cathaoirleach of Tullamore, Municipal District Councillor Frank Moran, and the local Aldi team, led by store manager Yasmin Rourke.
Located on O’Connell Street, the store is Aldi’s third in Offaly and its second in Tullamore.
It is also Aldi’s 163rd store opening in Ireland, since the retailer arrived in the country 25 years ago.
The Store
Aldi opened its first Offaly store in Edenderry in 2000 and currently employs over 76 people across its three stores in the county, spending over €1.5 million on wages annually.
On top of this, last year, Aldi spent an additional €23 million with Offaly suppliers.
The new 1,650-square-metre store features Aldi’s award-winning Project Fresh layout, with wide aisles and high-spec fixtures and fittings.
There are 91 car parking spaces on the premises – including nine electric vehicle (EV) charging spaces – and 22 bike parking spaces.
Additionally, the new store has seven self-service checkouts operating alongside existing staffed checkout lines.
The store is also powered by 100% green electricity, and it features new electronic shelf labels, in place of traditional paper price labels.
‘Provide The Best Shopping Experience’
At the opening of the store, manager Rourke said, “We are delighted to unveil Aldi’s second store in Tullamore today.
“This new store comes at a key time, when Irish consumers continue to face high costs of living.
“The new Aldi store in Tullamore will offer a wide range of fresh, high-quality Irish produce at excellent value.
“We strive to provide the best shopping experience, and the spacious, modern design of our new Tullamore store makes it easy for customers to find everything they need, supported by our committed and hard-working team.”
‘Significant Investment’
Officiating at the opening ceremony, Minister Hackett said, “I’m delighted to officially open the new Tullamore store today – the third Aldi store in County Offaly, and their second store in Tullamore.
“This is a significant investment in the region, and I believe it can ultimately prove to be a significant investment in Irish farmers, too.
“Aldi has a long tradition of supporting Irish farmers, with all Bord Bia quality-assured fresh meat, poultry and egg products delivered to stores daily.
“I have also been heartened to learn that Aldi’s Irish supply base continues to grow, with over 330 Irish suppliers now, including a growing number of fruit and vegetable producers with a strong commitment to organic produce.
“The new Tullamore store creates valuable local employment opportunities for Offaly, supporting the economic growth of the area with high-quality, well-paid jobs.
“Aldi has led the way in committing to paying a living wage to all of its employees since 2020, and I wish all of the team here in Tullamore every success for the future.”
Each Offaly store has recently nominated a charity or community group to receive a €500 Aldi gift card, with Tullamore TidyTowns this year’s nominee.
In addition to this, Acorn Edenderry received €2,500 worth of gift cards this year, to mark Aldi’s 25th year in Ireland.
