The chief executive of Dawn Farm Foods, Larry Murrin, has been named as the new President of Ibec. The appointment was announced at Ibec’s annual President’s Dinner on September 18. Murrin will be the first Ibec president from the agri-food sector.
Speaking at the event, Murrin said that the upcoming Budget should seek to meet our deficit targets, reduce income tax, support public and private investment and ensure that Ireland continues to be an attractive investment location.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny was guest of honour, and also addressed the event. In his inaugural address, Murrin said: "The Government needs to ensure that we will have the infrastructure we need in the coming years – the roads, the schools and the hospitals. Now is the time to take advantage of record low borrowing costs to invest in the future through new financing mechanisms. We also need to reform capital gains tax to encourage investment by enterprise."
He added: "It’s time we again became innovative and assertive in how we use our business taxes to encourage investment and job creation."
