Six Of 10 Tesco Stores Balloted Reject Mandate’s Call For Strike

Tesco calls on Mandate to re-think its strike after six of the 10 stores voting last night (20 February) rejected the union’s call for pickets. Tesco claims this calls into question ‘the entire mandate that the union is obtaining for its unnecessary action’.

Previous to last night’s votes, 16 stores had decided to strike. An additional four will now presently join the action to a total of 20. The votes bring to 14 the number of stores that have either rejected Mandate’s call or have to re-ballot.

Tesco has declared that the strike is ‘not working’ based on the voting and that it should be called off. It welcomes the decision of colleagues in Ashbourne, Lucan, Westport, Killarney Park, Killarney Street and Middleton to reject the call.

All 148 Tesco stores will remain open throughout the dispute and the retailer has stated it is grateful for the outstanding support of colleagues despite the trade union’s pressure.
