Study Finds Men Take No Responsibility For Grocery Shopping

A National Consumer Agency study has revealed that 57% of men say they have 'no responsibility for grocery shopping' in their household, while 23% say they share the responsibility with their female partner.

Meanwhile, 72% of women say that they are the main shoppers for their household, while 15% say they share responsibility with their male partner. The study surveyed 1,000 consumers and discovered that 73% of shoppers now make their meals from scratch, which shows a move away from 'ready meals' and other processed foods. This figure rose to 82% for under 35s.

90% said they were shopping 'more wisely' than last year, with 71% believing own-brand product quality has improved in recent years.

NCA research director Fergal O’Leary said, “There have been further, significant shifts towards supermarket, own-brand labels as consumers believe that the quality of own-brand products has improved and that much of the competition that occurs in the grocery market is now in the own-brand segment.”
