SuperValu Getaway Breaks Security Breach More Extensive Than Anticipated

Following reports of a security breach on 4 November, Loyaltybuild, the company that manages SuperValu Getaway Breaks, have made SuperValu and the Data Protection Commissioner aware that the breach is more widespread than initially thought.

SuperValu have contacted 62,500 Getaway Breaks customers to inform them that there is a high risk an unauthorised third party accessed their payment card details between January 2011 and February 2012.

Customers have been advised to contact their financial institutions as soon as possible in order to check transactions for any suspicious activity. They have also been told to be wary of any unsolicited communication from SuperValu Getaway Breaks and Loyaltybuild regarding the security breach.

As the breach is restricted to Getaway Breaks and data collected by Loyaltybuild, the Getaway Breaks booking system will be suspended until further notice while SuperValu and Loyaltybuild continue to conduct an extensive investigation into the issue. IT security consultants appointed by SuperValu will also investigate the Loyaltybuild system.
