SuperValu Named Offical Partner Of Coeliac Awareness Week 2018
SuperValu has been named the offical partner of Coeliac Awareness Week 2018 which takes place nationwide 14 to 20 May.
Minister of State for Health Promotion and the National Drugs Strategy, Catherine Byrne TD, will officially launch this year’s Coeliac Awareness Week. Tomorrow’s (1 May, 2018) launch will take place in the Garden Room, Carmichael Centre, Smithfield, Dublin 7.
'The Coeliac Society of Ireland are highlighting the impact of coeliac disease on families, and in particular, children. A number of events will be taking place during Awareness Week, including a series of in-store events at SuperValu stores around Ireland, including dietetic talks, advice from the Coeliac Society of Ireland and gluten free food samplings,' the charity said in a statement.
Speaking in advance of the launch, Mary Twohig, Chairperson of the Coeliac Society of Ireland, said, “There is huge confusion among members of the public around coeliac disease and the seriousness of the medical condition. It’s estimated that 47,500 people in Ireland are affected by the disease, and if a person is diagnosed, the chances of one of their first blood relatives having the disease increases to one in ten.
“A diagnosis of coeliac disease can be a difficult life adjustment for someone to make, so this year, we want to help families and friends of people with coeliac disease to help their loved-ones adjust, so we’ll be sharing helpful tips and tricks on how to cater for people with coeliac disease at home and when eating out.”
