Tesco Customers Benefit From 33% Bonus Tomatoes

Tesco Ireland customers will benefit from an extra 33% fill of tomatoes over the course of the next week to ten days at no extra cost.

Reportedly, the recent spell of good weather across Ireland has led to a bumper crop of San Marzano tomatoes becoming ripe for Tesco supplier, David Currid, Co. Waterford, which sees an increase in the pack size in order to reduce food waste. .

Grown exclusively for Tesco Ireland by the Currid family, the San Marzano tomato is a variant of the plum tomato family but 'is thinner and longer in shape'.

Commenting on the flush crop, Gerard Murphy, fresh buyer, Tesco Ireland, “Working with David in recent weeks we’ve helped to avoid the supplier ploughing almost half a tonne of tomatoes back into the land, leading to waste of perfect quality product.

The Co. Waterford, tomato grower brought the 'extra crop to the table to avoid crop waste due to over-supply'
