Tesco Ireland Is Bringing Back Communi-Tea Parties Nationwide
Tesco Ireland has re-launched its Communi-Tea parties, which will take place this month across its 151 stores nationwide on Saturday, June 16.
The community event returns as donations by the Tesco Community Fund to over 11,000 local causes all around Ireland reach €3 million.
Tesco customers have been able to donate to their favourite local cause or community project by using their blue tokens after check-out, which were introduced in 2014.
Christine Heffernan, Director of Corporate Affairs, Tesco Ireland said, “It is thanks to customers nationwide voting with their blue tokens every time they shop that our stores have been able to support over 11,000 local causes, donating a total of over €3 million to date. Irish people have long been known for their strong commitment to charitable and community causes, and this characteristic has helped to make our Community Fund so successful.
“With the top 3 causes being schools, health initiatives and community development activities, we’re looking forward to welcoming customers to our Communi-Tea parties on Saturday 16th June to acknowledge the huge difference they are making.”
Tesco reported that on average, Irish people drink 4 cups of tea per day, with 89% of households buying tea on a regular basis.
It added that while fruit, green and herbal teas are growing in popularity, they still only account for 20% of tea sales. Globally, Turkey is the only country to beat Ireland in the amount of tea consumed in the home.
Tesco recently reclaimed the top spot as Irelands leading supermarket for the first time in more than two years with an overall market share of 22.3%.
