Several major food outlets have been criticised in a new report on chicken welfare. The World Animal Protection charity has said 40 billion chickens live in overcrowded factory farms all around the world. It said they are often crammed into sheds with up to 10,000 other chickens. They will spend most of their lives sitting or lying in their own waste.

Valio’s consumer-packaged infant formulas have received an export permit from the Chinese authorities. These new export permits allow Valio to export its powdered infant formulas, manufactured at the Lapinlahti plant, and ready-to-feed liquid infant formula, made at the Turenki plant, to China. Valio has exported milk powders and demineralised Valio Demi whey powders for industrial use in China since the 1990s. Finnish milk powders have been used, among other things, as ingredients for local baby food.

Yofix, the brand the makes clean-label plant-based prebiotic and probiotic dairy alternatives, has been awarded a €100,000 grand in PepsiCo’s European Nutrition Greenhouse Programme. Yofix was one of 10 breakthrough brands in food and drink that participated in the Nutrition Greenhouse programme. Each group was partnered with a PepsiCo mentor and received €20,000 at the beginning of the six-month process.

The Colgate-Palmolive Company will provide a live webcast of its 2018 fourth quarter and year-end earnings conference call on Friday, January 25, 2019, at 11:00 am ET (16:00 GMT). The call will be hosted by Chairman and CEO, Ian Cook, and Senior Vice President - Investor Relations, John Faucher.

Angry investors forced Debenhams chief executive Sergio Bucher off the board yesterday, and the chairman out of the company. The moves came after another plunge in sales left the department store group fighting for its survival. Two shareholders - Mike Ashley's Sports Direct and Landmark Group - voted against the re-election of both men at the annual general meeting after they earlier said they needed fresh funding to prop up the business.

Food group Nestle says it will close its Romanian factory in the western city of Timisoara by the end of May 2019, according to online news publication Profit.ro. It said it is in talks with unionists to find “the appropriate solution” for the 388 employees who will be affected by the shutdown.

Diageo Korea will release Hop House 13 lager beer on the Korean market this month, its Asian premiere, the company said Friday. Diageo Korea said it will release Hop House 13 at 13 pubs in Seoul, 13 January. The beer will be available at large discount and convenience stores in 500-milliliter cans in the first half of the year.
