Unilever Ireland has launched Persil Powergems, which it says features “advanced gem formulation”. In creating Powergems, Unilever’s R&D team says it sought to create a laundry product from scratch, using 100% active ingredients whilst being two times more concentrated than washing powder.

Fyffes has teamed with Irish sports technology specialist Metrifit to host a competition that gives sports teams and coaches the chance to trial a Metrifit athlete monitoring software system as part of their training regime over a one-year period. Open to all teams North and South and irrespective of sporting discipline, entrants, aged 14 and over, can apply online at www.metrifit.com/fyffesfit  stating why they deserve to win the top prize.

Panadol’s Irish heritage is being “brought to life through an innovative new brand campaign called ‘This is what we’re made of’. The campaign celebrates the brand’s Irish manufacturing ties and what it believes has been its “best-kept secrets”: namely that its parent site. GSK in Dungarvan produces over 6 billion Panadol tablets every year, exporting to over 70 countries worldwide. The campaign features employees from the Waterford site, and aims to highlight its strong ties to Ireland.

The Elysian Tower in Cork City is expected to sell for more than €100 million when it goes on the market the coming weeks. Irish Examiner.ie reports that the US private equity firm Blackstone Capital is expected to instruct Savills and Lisney to sell the 87-metre tall building at Eglinton Street. Blackstone has not commented on the proposed sale, but it is believed the firm will look for more than €100 million.

Meat snack business Jack Links, which is behind the Peperami brand, may be opening a new plant in the UK. Express.co.uk reports that the firm may be opening a new plant in the Midlands, which would be “part of an aggressive European growth strategy and would build upon its existing operations in Ansbach, Germany”.

Lidl has applied for permission to demolish and rebuild its Tuma store in store in Galway. According to GalwayBayfm.ie, the company has applied to the county council for planning permission for the new building with an off-licence at the site of the existing Lidl store at Galway Road. The proposed redevelopment would also see the carpark extended.
