Avonmore Reveals Irish Families Save Money With Summer Picnics

A new survey carried out by Avonmore Cream has revealed that Irish families are making up to 50% savings by choosing homemade picnics instead of dining out in restaurants during the summer holidays.

Nearly half (48%) of those surveyed in the Avonmore Picnic Survey spend less than €20 on a family picnic for four, versus over €50 on a restaurant meal. Nearly 30% of Irish people picnic up to five times a year while 66% own a picnic basket.

The most popular picnic spots in the capital are Dublin Zoo with 35% of the vote, followed closely by Phoenix Park (33%). Outside of Dublin, respondents named Tipperary’s Glen of Aherlow, Killarney National Park, Wicklow’s Powerscourt Gardens, Glenevin Waterfall in Donegal and Galway’s Roundstone Beach as perfect picnic location.

Sandwiches were named the essential picnic food by 58%, with classic seasonal combination strawberries and cream named as the nation’s favourite picnic dessert by 38%.

To make having the perfect family picnic easier, Avonmore is offering consumers the chance to win a luxury wicker picnic basket or picnic blanket by checking the codes on promotional bottles of Avonmore Fresh Cream.
