Dubliner Cheese Reveals How The Irish Like Their Grilled Cheese

International Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day takes place tomorrow, Tuesday 12 April, and to celebrate, Dubliner Cheese has carried out a survey showing that a toasted cheese special, along with a cup of tea, tops the poll as Ireland’s favourite way to enjoy the classic snack.

Dubliner Cheese’s research found that 31.4% of respodents eat toasted cheese sandwiches more than once a week, with another 30% enjoying them at least once week.

Ireland’s favourite way to toast is under the grill (43.2%), with a surprising 25.5% preferring to use a George Foreman Grill, and 20.2% using a traditional sandwich maker.

The most popular way to enjoy a grilled cheese is on white bread (for 47.9%) with block cheese (for 51.9%), cooked golden brown and served with a cup of tea (68.7%).

Red cheese is a slightly more popular filling than white, getting 53% of the vote versus only 46.6% for the latter.
