Fyffes Joins Dunnes Stores To Give Pineapples The Chop

Irish retailer Dunnes Stores and Fyffes have teamed up to provide shoppers with a unique service which will provide freshly prepared pineapples, according to a statement.

Between now and mid-August, Dunnes Stores will have its new pineapple cutting machine available for customers to have their chosen pineapple chopped on the spot.

It was revealed that the banana maker supplied Dunnes with the fruits and the cutting machine.

The machine uses a swish of blades to slice up the pineapple, resulting in ready to eat pieces in just 20 seconds.

High-Tech Concept

According to the statement, Dunnes will have a demonstration across 12 of its outlets during the summer months.

The cutter can be seen in operation in Ennis; Dundalk; Terryland, Galway; Jetland, Limerick; Bishopstown, Cork; Newbridge and Maynooth, and at Dublin’s Cornelscourt, Blanchardstown, Stephen’s Green, Pavilions Swords and Portmarnock stores.

The latest gadget has been described as 'a high-tech concept that has proven successful in markets overseas'.

The machine “Gives shoppers the opportunity to slice their pineapples on-the-go and at no added cost beyond the recommended retail price of the pineapple itself,” said Emma Hunt-Duffy, marketing manager, Fyffes.
