After a close loss last year, Handsome Burger, a gourmet burger restaurant in Galway, recently earned the title of best burger in Ireland.
Handsome Burger was runner-up in the competition last year and lost to a Kilkenny burger restaurant called the Hungry Moose.
The sponsor of National Burger Day, Kepak, announced the win on 19 June, according to a statement.
In the past month, almost 20,000 people voted on Ireland’s best burger among over 500 different burger restaurants.
Reaction
Handsome Burger’s co-owner Rory McCormack said he is excited to receive the award especially since the restaurant only opened about three years ago.
“We could never have imagined we’d be celebrating an award of this level so soon,” said McCormack.
“We want to send a huge thank you to all who voted and especially to our loyal and local customers for their encouragement and support. It’s times like these that makes all of the hard work worthwhile!”
Two for One Deal
People in Ireland can receive two signature burgers for the price of one at several restaurants in Ireland on 20 June since it’s National Burger Day. The list can be found on the National Burger Day’s website.
