The Sport/Energy Drinks category made a big leap in the category rankings in 2019, moving from the number-16 position that it held in 2018 to number 12, and it retained that position in 2020, according to the top 100 categories, in Checkout's Top 100 Brands 2022, in association with NielsenIQ
In 2021, it moved up the rankings again, by six places – a significant reversal of fortune for a category that had been moving downward since 2010, when it ranked at number 11.
Last year, it retained the number-six position.
Lucozade is still the Sports/Energy Drinks brand to beat.
Checkout's top four brands were the same in 2022, and have the same rankings, as 2021.
However, the Boost brand made a return to the top 5 last year and to its number-five position, having been pushed out of that spot by BPM in 2021.
The top five brands’ share of the category moved from 93.0% in 2021 to 94.0% in 2022.
