Carrefour Provides 89 Million Meals To Food Banks

Carrefour last year donated 89 million meals to food banks (and related organisations) globally.

Of these, 77 million were distributed in France. The altruistic work involved 1,300 volunteers in some ten countries spread over three continents – France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Romania, Argentina, Brazil, China, and, for the first time ever, Taiwan.

Carrefour works with more than 800 local community-aide bodies of various descriptions. La Fondation Carrefour allocates 91 per cent of its budget to these undertakings, which often involve supply chain structures of considerable sophistication.

With a 2014 budget of €6.5 million, the retailer financed 60 such projects.
