Aldi Ireland To Stock And Sell Cork-Based Ardfallen Irish Whiskey

German-based discount retailer Aldi Ireland has introduced Ardfallen Irish Whiskey across its stores nationwide.

The new whiskey, which is produced by West Cork Distillers, triple distilled and matured in bourbon casks, will be exclusive to Aldi.

Kevin Egan, R&D Manager at West Cork Distillers, said that developing the Ardfallen blend “was a collaborative exercise with Aldi Ireland and we are delighted with the resultant whiskey”.

Delicate & Spicy

“Ardfallen is carefully prepared by blending the finest of grain and malt Irish whiskey. The malt fraction is both first fill bourbon and bodega sherry cask matured malt making the blend interesting and engaging,” Egan said.

Ardfallen Whiskey, which gets its name from the area in Cork where the malted barley is sourced, is crafted in small batches and has been blended to give an aroma of chocolate, almond, and green fruit, with a lingering sweetness to the taste that ends on a spicy finish of vanilla and cocoa.

Tom Doorley, Aldi’s Drinks Expert, added that the traditionally triple-distilled whiskey is “delicate, yet spicy”, with “aromas of fresh nuts and a hint of apple”.

The new whiskey will be available nationwide in all Aldi stores from 26 June, retailing at €18.99 per 70cl bottle.

Aldi was recently recognised for its existing whiskey ranges, winning another highly acclaimed Spirits Business Scotch Whisky Masters for its Highland Black Single Malt Scotch Whiskey.
